The Big Pitch

B2work

Maya's flat, the Monday after her parents left

The handwriting on that torn envelope had been her birth father's. Her mother confirmed what the letter only hinted — the man who raised her hadn't fathered her. Maya was still turning it over when, that Monday, something came up at work that crowded out everything else.

Sam: Our biggest client's up for grabs, and I want you pitching to their board. I should point out it's a gamble — but I'd back you to put forward honest numbers, not the usual polished deck.

The flat that night, then the client's boardroom

Maya had already come up with something fresher than the safe deck. Using it meant she'd take a risk — so she'd set out at dawn to rehearse it one last time.

By nine she faced the board. Her plain slides stood out against the rivals' charts. One director frowned — "Where's the upside?" She walked them through the figures, and the deal was signed by lunch.

Sam: Months in, and you've just landed us the biggest deal of the year. I knew you'd shine.
