Watching your weight B1

The slightly awkward chat about the belt getting tighter and doing something about it.

Talking about the scales

put on B2 — gain weightA: You look well!
B: Thanks — I've actually put on a few kilos since I stopped running.

lose weight — become thinnerA: Have you been working out lately?
B: Yeah, I wanted to lose weight before summer.

Getting moving again

work out — exerciseA: You look great! Have you been working out?
B: Yeah, I started going for runs in the mornings.

warm up — prepare the bodyA: Are you ready to play football?
B: Give me a minute to warm up first.

build up B2 — develop strength or confidenceA: I'm nervous about the presentation.
B: Don't worry, each time you practice, you'll build up your confidence.

Trousers don't fit

Carl: None of my work trousers fit anymore. I've definitely put on a bit over winter.

Bex: Same. I'm trying to lose weight before the summer, but it's slow going.

Carl: I've started to work out at lunchtime — just a quick session at the gym down the road.

Bex: Good plan. Just remember to warm up first, or you'll do yourself an injury.

Back into it

Jas: I want to start running again but I'm so unfit I can't even do a mile.

Will: Just build up slowly. Don't go mad on day one or you'll end up on the sofa nursing a pulled muscle.

Jas: Fair point. I'll do a bit each morning and build up from there.
