The letter from the old tenant turned out to be a hand-drawn map of the neighbourhood. Sweet — but the scribbled streets made no sense, and the bus routes were still a mystery.

Dan: It's easy to get around once you know the routes. Come on, I'll show you — we'll set off now and catch the market before it packs up.

On the way in, Dan kept pointing out the cheap line, the right stop, the shortcut Maya had been looking for all week.

Either way — puzzling it out herself or with a quick word from Dan — she made it, just, and ended up finding most of the way without any help at all. "You're practically a local now," Dan joked.
