What's your approach to tipping — when do you do it and how much?

A natural way to answer
I think it depends on the service and the country. Where I'm from, tipping isn't really expected, so I only do it when someone goes above and beyond. Abroad, I try to follow the local custom so I don't come across as tight.
Key phrases to use
- round it up — to increase a payment to the nearest whole number as a small tip“Just round it up to twenty.”
- added on — included as an extra charge on top of the price“A service charge was added on at the end.”
- tight — unwilling to spend money; mean with money“Don't be so tight — leave him a tip.”
- slapped on — added quickly and without much thought, often unwelcome“They slapped on a delivery fee at checkout.”
