Do you use a fitness tracker or step counter, and does it actually change what you do?

A natural way to answer

I use a watch that counts my steps and sleep. I find it useful for spotting patterns, though I try not to take the numbers too seriously. It's a guide, not a master.

Key phrases to use

  • short of — not having enough of something; below a target“I was a thousand steps short of my goal.”
  • keep someone on their toes — to make someone stay alert and ready to act“The new target keeps me on my toes.”
  • egg someone on — to encourage or urge someone to do something, often more daring“His friends egged him on to go faster.”
  • fall short — to fail to reach a standard or target“We trained hard but fell short in the final.”
