Do you notice or care whether food is in season, or do you just eat what you fancy whenever you fancy it?

C1Food & eatingCompare

A natural way to answer

I do try to eat seasonally where I can, mainly because the produce tastes better and tends to be cheaper. That said, I'm not strict about it. If I really want something out of season, I'll buy it, but I appreciate that fruit and veg picked at the right time of year are in a different league.

Key phrases to use

  • cave in — to finally give in to a temptation or pressure“I tried to resist but caved in and bought it.”
  • in a different league — far better than something else, on a completely higher level“Fresh, seasonal veg is in a different league.”
  • hold a candle to it — to come anywhere close to it in quality (usually negative)“Frozen peas can't hold a candle to fresh ones.”
  • count down the days — to wait eagerly for something, marking off the time until it arrives“I count down the days until mango season.”
