When a book becomes a film, which do you usually prefer, and why?

A natural way to answer
Generally I prefer the book, because it gives you the characters' thoughts and far more detail. Films often have to simplify the plot to fit the running time. Occasionally, though, a film captures the mood better than I imagined it.
Key phrases to use
- cut corners — do something quickly or cheaply by leaving out important parts“The adaptation cut corners and dropped half the subplots.”
- leave out — not include something; omit it“The film left out my favourite character.”
