Managing your workload B1
Getting tasks done, covering for each other, and catching up.
Getting things done
carry out — perform a taskA: Did you carry out the manager's instructions?
B: Yes, I finished everything this morning.
Covering and catching up
cover for — do someone’s work while they are awayA: I need to leave early today. Can you cover for me at the meeting?
B: Sure, I’ll take notes and let you know what happens.
catch up on — do something you missed earlierA: What are you doing this weekend?
B: Honestly, I just need to catch up on some sleep.
Divvying up the work
Sam: There's a lot on this week. Can you carry out the supplier checks?
Jo: Sure. Is there a list, or am I working it out as I go?
Sam: There's a sheet. Once that's done, could you also finish the invoice review I left half-done?
Jo: No problem. I'll knock both out before lunch.
Helping out while someone's away
Jo: I'm off on Friday — could someone cover for me on the support line?
Sam: I'll do it. You've covered for me plenty of times.
Jo: Thanks. I'll catch up on the emails first thing Monday.
Sam: Don't rush. It'll all still be there when you're back.
