think over — consider carefullyA: Are you going to accept the job offer?
B: I'm not sure yet. I want to think it over for a couple of days.
step down B2 — resign from a positionA: Did you hear Mr. Lee is stepping down as principal?
B: Really? I wonder who will replace him.
take over — replace someone in a roleA: Who's teaching the class now?
B: Mr. Lee took over from Mrs. Carter last week.
The conversation
A: Have you got a minute? I've thought it over, and I've decided to hand my notice in.
B: Oh. Right. Well, I'm sorry to hear that, you'll be missed.
A: Thank you. I wanted to tell you face to face rather than over email.
B: I appreciate that. When were you thinking of leaving?
Sorting the handover
A: I'll work my full notice, and I can write everything up for whoever takes over.
B: That'd be a big help. Funny enough, I've been thinking of stepping down myself.
A: Have you? Well, I'll think the handover over and get you a plan by Friday.
