I'd like to check in — request check-in

expressionB1IELTS 4+neutralcommon

A polite, standard way to tell airport or hotel staff that you want to register your arrival.

Pattern: I'd like to check in (for [flight/room])

In use

  • Hi, I'd like to check in for the nine o'clock flight to Rome.airport desk
  • A: Good morning, how can I help?
B: Hi, I'd like to check in, please.
    airport

Common mistake

✗ I want check in.

✓ I'd like to check in, please.

Use 'I'd like to' + verb for a polite request, and keep the 'to': not 'I want check in'.

Don't confuse it

Here 'check in' is the arrival request; 'check out' is leaving the hotel at the end.
