A group project B1
Splitting up the work, gathering what you need, and getting it submitted on time.
Sharing out the work
group activity — shared taskA: What did you do at the workshop?
B: We did a fun group activity where we had to solve a puzzle together.
collect information — gather dataA: How did you prepare for your project?
B: I collected information online and talked to a few experts.
draw a conclusion — decideA: So, what do you think happened?
B: Well, based on the evidence, I’d draw the conclusion that someone left the door open.
pull your weight — do your fair shareWe each need to contribute our fair share. (neutral)
Everyone's got to pull their weight. (casual)
Submitting on time
hand in — submit workA: Did you hand in your report yet?
B: Not yet, I'm finishing it now.
read over — to read something carefully from beginning to endA: Did you finish your essay?
B: Yes, but I want to read it over one more time before I hand it in.
Dividing the work
Lena: So for the group activity, how do we want to split this up?
Tom: I'm happy to collect information on the first two sections if you take the rest.
Lena: Deal. Once we've got the data we can draw a conclusion together at the end.
Tom: Sounds good — let's check in on Thursday and see where we are.
Before the deadline
Lena: Have you finished your part? We need to hand it in by midday tomorrow.
Tom: Nearly — just let me read over it one more time for typos.
Lena: Good idea. I'd rather we hand in something polished than rush it.
Tom: Agreed. I'll send it across in ten minutes and we're done.
A quiet word with a teammate
Lena: Can I be honest? I feel like I'm doing most of this on my own at the moment.
Tom: Sorry — I know I've been slow. I promise I'll pull my weight from here on.
Lena: That's all I'm asking. If you take the research section, we'll be back on track.
Tom: Deal. I'll have it drafted by tomorrow evening and send it over.
