A casual way to flag that what follows is your own personal opinion.
Pattern: If you ask me, [your opinion]. / [your opinion], if you ask me.
In use

Common mistake
✗ If you ask to me, it's too expensive.
✓ If you ask me, it's too expensive.
It's the fixed phrase 'if you ask me' — no 'to', and no one has to actually ask first.
Don't confuse it
Softer than 'I'd say'; it leads with your view rather than easing into it.
