I'd say — softly give a view

expressionB1IELTS 5+informalcore

A gentle way to put forward your opinion or a guess without sounding too certain.

Pattern: I'd say (that) [your opinion / estimate].

In use

  • I'd say the blue one suits you better, honestly.giving a gentle opinion
  • A: How long will the drive take?
B: I'd say about two hours, give or take.
    estimating casually

Common mistake

✗ I would to say it's fine.

✓ I'd say it's fine.

'I'd' = 'I would', and 'would' is followed by 'say' with no 'to'.

Don't confuse it

Softer and more tentative than 'if you ask me', which states the view more flatly.
