Doing up the place B1
Big plans to renovate and make the place feel new.
knock down — demolish (a building or structure)A: What happened to that house on the corner?
B: Oh, they knocked it down last week.
brighten up B2 — make brighter or happierA: Sarah seemed upset this morning.
B: I brought her some coffee to try and brighten up her day.
tear down — demolish (a building or structure)A: What happened to that building on Main Street?
B: Oh, they tore it down last week. They're going to build apartments there.
The dividing wall
A: The builder reckons we could knock down the wall between the kitchen and the dining room.
B: Open-plan? That'd really brighten up the whole downstairs.
A: That's what I thought. Loads more light coming through.
B: Let's get a proper quote before we commit, mind.
The old shed
A: Honestly, we should just tear down that shed, it's falling to bits.
B: Fair enough. A few pots out there would brighten up the garden no end.
A: I'll book a skip for the weekend then.
B: Lovely. I'll give you a hand.
