Snapping out of a sulk B1
When someone's been moody all day and a mate gives them a gentle nudge.
cheer up — feel happierA: You look happier today!
B: Yeah, I finally cheered up after that bad week.
brighten up — become brighter or happierA: You look tired. How are you feeling now?
B: Much better, thanks! I always brighten up after a good walk.
grow up B2 — stop behaving childishlyA: You can't just quit when things get hard.
B: I know, I guess I need to grow up.
On the sofa
A: You've had a face on you all afternoon.
B: I'm fine.
A: Oh, go on, cheer up. It's not the end of the world.
B: Yeah, fair enough. Sorry, I'm being daft.
Walking to the pub
A: You've brightened up a bit, then.
B: I have, yeah. Bit embarrassed about earlier, mind.
A: Don't be. We all sulk sometimes.
B: True. Time I grew up about it, really.
