A gentle, informal way to say you feel sad or low, without it being too serious.
Pattern: [someone] is feeling down (about [thing])
In use
- I've been feeling a bit down all week, to be honest.opening up to a friend
- A: You seem quiet today — everything okay?
B: I'm just feeling a bit down, that's all.checking in on someone
Common mistake
✗ I'm feeling down myself today.
✓ I'm feeling a bit down today.
Soften it with 'a bit', and don't add 'myself' — 'feeling down' already means about yourself.
Don't confuse it
'Feeling down' is mild and temporary; 'over the moon' is the happy opposite.
